Following Jesus: Share His Life
Jesus’ Work:
- By His Resurrection, Jesus reigns in power over His kingdom on earth. His resurrection has begun a new creation, in which we are redeemed and inwardly renewed by the Holy Spirit to become more and more like Christ (Galatians 5:16-25, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Colossians 3:9-10, 1 Peter 1:3-5). The Resurrection of Christ is an indication of our future hope (Philippians 3:20-21) and the Spirit’s restorative work in and through us is a sign of God’s plan for all of creation (Matthew 19:28, Acts 3:21, Romans 8:18-23, 1 Corinthians 15:24-25, Colossians 1:19-20, Revelation 21:1-5).
Our Image:
- Body: As people who are saved and sent to do His work, we are all uniquely gifted for service, like parts of a body (Romans 12:1-8, 1 Corinthians 12:12-31, 1 Peter 4:10-11). Jesus said that it was good for Him to leave earth, so that He could send the Holy Spirit to work in and through us, accomplishing even greater things (John 14:12-14, 16:7).
Ministry:
- Mission: Jesus’ Great Commission was for His disciples to make more disciples, baptizing them and teaching them to be committed followers of Christ (Matthew 28:18-20). We are sent into the world as His witnesses and ambassadors, just as He was sent (Acts 1:8, 2 Corinthians 5:19-20, John 20:21).
Value:
- Participation: We value the role that every member of the church has to play. The work of the church is not about professional performance and programs, but about equipping and involving people to contribute, grow, and transform as we follow Jesus (Ephesians 4:11-16, 2 Corinthians 3:18).
